BRIEF: eBay's Dramatic Changes

Jan. 30--EBAY'S DRAMATIC CHANGES

EBay announced changes Tuesday:

Lower fees for listing items. Example: A $50 auction item will be charged an "insertion fee" of $2 instead of $2.40. Photos will be free.

Higher commissions on sold items. Example: Items sold for up to $25 will be charged 8.75 percent of the closing value rather than 5.25 percent.

Perks for PowerSellers who have high ratings from buyers. Example: Top ratings will earn 5 to 15 percent discounts off eBay commissions.

Feedback. Sellers will not be able to post negative comments about buyers but will gain protections against unwarranted complaints and unwelcome buyers.

Seller standards. EBay is discouraging "bad seller behavior," especially actions that lead to buyer dissatisfaction.
