THE pill can protect a woman from ovarian cancer for more than 30 years after she stops taking it, according to new research.

A worldwide study of more than 110,000 women found the longer the contraceptive is used the less likely she is to develop the disease.

Experts estimate the pill has prevented more than 200,000 women worldwide from getting the disease and has saved the lives of another 100,000 who did contract it.

The pill also protects against cancer of the lining of the womb.
