Lil Wayne Charged in Drug Case

The 25-year-old recording artist, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was arrested after his tour bus was stopped Tuesday night at the Border Patrol checkpoint near Dateland, the Yuma (Ariz.) Sun reported.

A representative for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration told the newspaper a Border Patrol dog alerted agents illegal drugs were on the bus, prompting a search that allegedly led to the discovery of nearly four ounces of marijuana, a little more than an ounce of cocaine, 41 grams of Ecstasy and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia.

A .40-caliber pistol registered to Carter, who has a concealed weapons permit in Florida, was also recovered, the report said.

Court records said Carter was charged with possession of narcotic drug for sale, possession of dangerous drugs, misconduct involving weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The judge hearing his case allowed Carter to travel outside the state and to remain out of custody on the $10,185 bond he posted, the Sun said.
