Amy Winehouse Enters Rehab (for Real)

Amy Winehouse Enters Rehab (for Real)

Jan. 24--Amy Winehouse ended her long-running objection to rehab and entered a rehabilitation clinic Thursday, in hopes that she will be able to attend the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Feb. 10, according to her record label.

The British singer -- whose drug-fueled antics have grown increasingly dangerous in recent weeks, including a bender caught on video this week where she is apparently smoking crack -- decided to seek full-time treatment after "talks with her record label, management, family and doctors," according to a statement from the Universal Music Group.

"She has come to understand that she requires specialist treatment to continue her ongoing recovery from drug addiction and prepare for her planned appearance at the Grammy Awards," the company said. "Amy entered the facility by mutual agreement and continues to receive the full support of all concerned."

Winehouse is best known for her hit "Rehab" -- which includes the now infamous chorus, "They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, 'No, no, no.'" "Rehab" received Grammy nominations for record of the year and song of the year, while her album "Back to Black" was nominated for album of the year. Winehouse received six nominations overall and is the only artist nominated in all four of the top Grammy categories.

Initially, Winehouse developed a reputation for drinking while she performed. However, since the jailing of her husband Blake Fielder-Civil on charges of assault and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, her behavior has grown increasingly erratic -- resulting in a cancelled tour and several shaky performances where she was booed offstage.

"Universal Music Group wants nothing more than to see her take the time she needs to come back to full health and fulfil her incredible potential with the label," the label said in a statement. "The label has always had the best interests of Amy at heart and has been guided by her family and doctors in the last few months as to the best direction to take. All concerned feel that Amy must put her health before all other considerations and will be by her side whenever and wherever they are needed."
