HILLARY CLINTON powered to a second victory over Barack Obama last night in the race to be US president.

The former First Lady scored half the vote in the Nevada Democrat poll to her rival's 45 per cent.

But the primary was marred by allegations of dirty tactics.

The Clinton campaign claimed their supporters had been threatened.

Obama's camp said their backers received phone calls that made repeated reference to his full name, Barack Hussein Obama.

Clinton's win added momentum to her campaign ahead of next month's Super Tuesday when more than 20 states go to the polls.

It followed her shock victory in New Hampshire.

Illinois senator Obama made a flying start in the Iowa vote.

The New York senator is bidding to be the first female president while Obama would be the first black leader.

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney coasted to an easy win in the Nevada Republican contest.

It was his second straight success, coming quickly after a first- place finish in Michigan.

He told supporters: "Keep 'em coming. Keep 'em coming."
