Bambale Osby's layup with 21 seconds left Saturday boosted 18-point underdog Maryland to a stunning 82-80 victory over top-ranked North Carolina.

The Tar Heels were unable to connect on three scoring attempts following Osby's basket and lost for the first time this season.

James Gist was the top scorer for the Terrapins (12-7, 2-2 ACC) with 22 points.

Tyler Hansbrough, who missed a three-point shot as the final buzzer sounded, had 17 points and 14 rebounds for North Carolina (18-1, 3-1). COL BKB: Maryland 82, North Carolina 80
