MOVIE star Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds have split just two weeks after their "wedding", it was reported last night.

The couple tied the knot on New Year's Day on a private island near Bora Bora in French Polynesia.

But their honeymoon was "marred by screaming matches and arguments all week", said US reports.

However, the wedding ceremony was only spiritual and the pair are not officially married.

They planned to have a legally binding ceremony on their return to the US.

Last night, Murphy announced in a statement the plans had been scrapped, saying the couple have "decided to remain friends".

Murphy has five children from his marriage to Nicole Mitchell Murphy, who divorced him in 2005.

He also has a baby daughter by Spice Girl Mel B.
