Jan. 16--The Illinois Department of Natural is accepting presubmitted proposals for grants to fund projects through the 2008 State Wildlife Grant Program.

The program provides funds specifically for the protection and management of non-game species identified in the Illinois Wildlife Action Plan. The program is designed to help conserve wildlife before species become more rare and more costly to protect.

Organizations interested in applying for a grant should submit a grant proposal online through the departments website by April 11.

"This grant program is intended to help us put federal dollars to work on the ground in Illinois now to conserve wildlife and vital natural areas for future generations," said the department's Acting Director, Sam Flood.

Information about the pre-application for the grant is available at the IDNR web site at dnr.state.il.us/orc/wildliferesources/theplan/swggrant/login.asp.

The Illinois Wildlife Action Plan can be found at http://dnr.state.il/us/orc/wildliferesources/theplan/
