HOLLYWOOD star Nicole Kidman has confirmed she is pregnant.

The 40 - year - old Australian actress and her singer husband Keith Urban announced their happy news in a statement to a US TV show.

It said: "Nicole and Keith confirmed today that they are expecting a baby. The couple are thrilled."

The announcement came just a week after Kidman's representatives denied pregnancy rumours, describing them as "gossip".

Kidman has reportedly dropped plans to shoot a major new film in Germany to protect the health of her unborn child after suffering miscarriages in the past.

She was scheduled to start world on World War II drama The Reader this month.

Kidman has two adopted children - Connor, 12, and 14-year-old Isabella - with ex-husband Tom Cruise.

The baby will be her first child with 40-year-old, New Zealand- born country music star Urban.
