Jan. 8--Four-and-a-half first-time nominees were announced Tuesday for the Directors Guild of America's annual award for feature film directing for 2007, according to the guild's Web site.

Joel Coen ("Fargo") received his second DGA nomination for "No Country for Old Men" while his co-director, brother Ethan, received his first nomination.

Paul Thomas Anderson ("Boogie Nights") was nominated for "There Will Be Blood" starring Daniel Day-Lewis as an oil baron in turn-of-the-century Texas.

Tony Gilroy's directing debut, the legal thriller "Michael Clayton," also was recognized as were actor Sean Penn for directing "Into the Wild" and director Julian Schnabel for "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly."

This is the 60th time the DGA has presented its prize. Only six times in the guild's history has its winner failed to go on to win the Academy Award for directing.
