The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. All times are Iraq local times.

BAGHDAD

_Around 8 a.m. Sunday, gunmen with silencers assassinated Sheik Ismael Abass, who supported the creation of a U.S.-funded militia in the Shiite neighborhood of Shaab.

_A Multi-National Division-Baghdad soldier was killed and three others wounded when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during combat operations in southern Baghdad on Jan. 6, the U.S. army said.

_Before noon Sunday, a suicide bomber wearing a vest filled with explosives targeted the headquarters of the Iraq Unity Association in the Karrada neighborhood during an Iraqi military celebration. Five were killed (three soldiers, a guard and a civilian) and several injured, including a cameraman and a reporter, police and witnesses said.

_Around 1 p.m. Sunday, a car bomb exploded on the main street of the Qahira neighborhood, killing three people and injuring 15.

_Around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, four IEDs detonated in sequence in the Nahda neighborhood, killing one person and injuring four.

_Police found six unidentified bodies in Baghdad Sunday: one in Shaab, one in Waziriyah, one on a highway near Sleikh, two in Saidiyah, and one in Doura.

DIYALA PROVINCE

_Police on Sunday found the decapitated heads of four men in Muqdadiya, northeast of Baquba.

_Sunday, the Iraqi army arrested Sheikh Abdul Wahab, the head of Ubeid tribes in Khalis, north of Baquba.

MOSUL

_At noon Sunday, a truck bomb targeted a church in the Muhandseen neighborhood in Mosul, injuring five members of one family.

_Around noon Sunday, a roadside bomb targeted a monastery in Mosul. No casualties were reported.

_Around noon Sunday, a truck bomb targeted a church in the Noor neighborhood in Mosul. No casualties were reported.

SALAHUDDIN

_At noon Sunday, a roadside bomb targeted an American convoy in downtown Tikrit. Gunmen hiding near an ice cream shop clashed with the American patrol, killing two U.S. soldiers, police said.
