AMERICAN rock legend Stephen Stills is recovering after surgery for prostate cancer.

Wife Kristen said the operation went well and "he couldn't be better".

Stills, 63, is best known for playing with rock band Buffalo Springfield and supergroup Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

He also had a solo hit with Love The One You're With. Stills plans to be at the Sundance Film Festival later this month.
