Carnegie Learning Math Programs Approved for Adoption By Georgia State Board of Education

Current Headlines: Carnegie Learning, Inc., a publisher of research-based math curricula for middle schools, high schools, and the higher education market, announced that the Georgia State Board of Education informed the company this week that its Integrated II and Integrated III math curricula are recommended for use in the State by the 2007 Learning Resources Advisory Committee. Carnegie Learning's Bridge to Algebra and Integrated I math curricula were approved in 2006 as K-8 Mathematics Learning Resources for the State of Georgia.

The Georgia Department of Education has made improvement of mathematics K-12 instruction a high priority, and the Board's Curriculum and Instructional Services recommendations are a critical component of several statewide initiatives in the implementation of the Georgia Performance Standards for mathematical achievement.

Carnegie Learning's middle and high school math programs are at the forefront of high school transformation initiatives in large urban districts nationwide including Los Angeles Unified, Miami-Dade, and the Chicago Public Schools where the curricula has been purchased with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Implementation results from three states published in the past six months include an evaluation by the Kentucky Committee for Mathematics Achievement in which Carnegie Learning's Cognitive Tutor curriculum was the only program to receive the top ranking in every category in the Committee's assessment of intermediate and middle grades math intervention programs. In the State of Washington, Carnegie Learning's curricula received the highest overall rating for implementation in grades 6-8 when compared with 17 competitive math curricula included in the State's review of K-12 Computational Fluency Supplemental Programs; and, preliminary results from Louisiana's Catch-Up Math Pilot indicate that Carnegie Learning's Bridge to Algebra program accelerates math achievement of students who are behind in math and who have a desire to catch up.
