Recall of 1 Million Pounds of Ground Beef

Nov 03, 11:31 PM

Current Headlines: Cargill Meat Solutions announced Saturday it is recalling more than 1 million pounds of ground beef produced at a Pennsylvania plant.

The ground beef was produced at a plant in Wyalusing, Pa., between Oct. 8 and Oct. 11 and distributed in the northeast, Virginia and Ohio, the company said. The reason for the recall is possible contamination with E. coli bacteria.

No illnesses have been associated with this product, said John Keating, president, Cargill Regional Beef. We are working closely with the (United States Department of Agriculture) to remove the product from the marketplace.

The meat involved in the recall was packaged and sold under a variety of brand names, including Century Farm, Wegmans, Giant, Giant Eagle, Shop Rite, Stop & Shop, Price Rite and Weis Premium. All have the number Est. 9400 inside the USDA inspection mark.

States affected by the recall are Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
