Fossil Find Proves to Be a Mystery

Current Headlines: Officials are trying to identify the remains of a mammal about the size of a fox that was found during a public fossil dig near Marmarth, in the Badlands, the state paleontologist says.

John Hoganson said the remains, found over the summer, are being carefully removed from the rock in which they were embedded. The fossil is believed to be about 65 million years old.

"Mammals had lived during the time of the dinosaurs, but they were generally very small creatures and there weren't very many of them around," Hoganson said.
