Intel to Pay Transmeta to Settle Patent Case Briefing: SAN FRANCISCO

Oct 25, 03:23 PM

Current Headlines: Intel agreed to pay Transmeta $250 million over five years to end patent lawsuits and license its low-power semiconductor technology.

The dispute centered on which company owned the rights to inventions used in low-power microprocessors for notebook computers. Transmeta pioneered the design of chips that use less power, allowing batteries to last longer.

Intel began to concentrate on that market in 2003. Transmeta gave up making and selling chips after failing to gain enough orders.
