Population to Hit Record High

Current Headlines: SCOTLAND'S population is projected to hit a record high in the next 25 years, according to a new report.

The country's population peaked in 1974, when it reached 5.24million.

But based on recent trends, experts state the number living here - which was 5.12m in 2006 - will continue to rise.

Scotland's population is projected to exceed the previous record in 2014, before rising to 5.37m by 2031.
