Biggest Jet-Set to Take-Off

Oct 25, 04:29 AM

Current Headlines: THE world's largest passenger plane will make its first commercial flight today.

Powered by Rolls-Royce engines, the Airbus A380 superjumbo will take off from Singapore's Changi airport with 471 passengers aboard.

The giant plane, whose wings are built in the UK, will fly to Sydney.

The A380 could have as many as 850 passengers in economy class.

But Singapore Airlines will have just 471 - with first-class passengers luxuriating in special suites with double beds and 23in TV screens.

Tickets for the first flight were auctioned for charity - with one wealthy punter paying pounds 50,000 for a suite.

Virgin Atlantic are also taking six A380s, although teething troubles forced the delivery date to be pushed back four years to 2013.
