Russia's Population Shrinks By 196,600 in 8 Mths

Current Headlines: MOSCOW. Oct 19 (Interfax) - Russia's population was an estimated 142 million on September 1, 2007, down by 196,600 from the beginning of 2007, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said.

The population declined due to natural loss. Higher migration growth offset population decline by 44.9%.

The population declined by 357,000 in the first eight months of last year.
