Somalia: Government Forces Reportedly Arrest WFP Official in Mogadishu

Current Headlines: Text of report by Somali independent Shabeelle Media Network website on 17 October

The Transitional Federal Government forces arrested the head of WFP in Mogadishu, Idris Muhammad Osman, while he was at his place of work this morning.

A UN official interviewed by Shabeelle said that Mr Osman was taken away by members of government forces, who were driving in a battle wagon, from his office in Mogadishu.

The Mr Osman's whereabouts and reasons for his arrest are not known, however, reports say that he was taken to the security headquarters in Mogadishu.

There is no comment from the WFP offices regarding this issue.
