Official: Wisconsin Gunman Dead

Current Headlines: A sheriff's deputy who allegedly shot six people to death at a northern Wisconsin house party Sunday is dead, a county official said.

Crandon police chief John Dennee said police were no longer looking for the suspect, who an official of neighboring Town of Argonne identified earlier as Forest County Sheriff's Deputy Tyler Peterson, but would not confirm he was dead, WTMJ-TV, Milwaukee, reported.

But county supervisor Ray Statezny Jr. said he heard the suspect had been shot and killed.

The six victims in the party shooting were between the ages of 16 and 21, and there were believed to be 10 people in the house when the shootings occurred.

Being that it's a close town, it's going to affect nearly everyone, Crandon City Council Member Paul Wagoner told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Counseling was being offered for the 300 students of Crandon High School, where two victims were students and the others were recent graduates.

Marci Franz told WJTW-TV she heard the shots fired while lying in bed.

I heard another succession of gunshots and it sounded very close, probably close to my house, where as the others sounded more distant. Then immediately squealing tires, she said.
