Lindsay Lohan Leaves Utah Rehab Center

Current Headlines: By Stephen Williams, Newsday, Melville, N.Y.

Oct. 7--Lindsay Lohan, after two months in an exclusive Utah substance-abuse treatment center, has packed up and left, bringing to a close another up-and-down chapter in her roller-coaster life.

The actress from Long Island, under the care of the Cirque Lodge Treatment Center since early August, left in the company of her father, Michael, with whom she was reunited last month after three years' separation. Her immediate destination was reportedly Los Angeles, where she is to begin filming a new movie, "Dare to Love Me."

Outside the Merrick home of Lohan's mother, Dina M. Lohan, and three siblings, all was quiet most of yesterday. A man who drove three teenagers to the house shortly after 4 p.m. said the family had no comment.

Lohan's departure from Cirque Lodge was initially reported by People magazine. Lohan's spokeswoman was not available for comment.

The actress' chronicled attempts at rehab came to a head in late July in Santa Monica, when she was busted after an automobile chase and arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. Backing off from her party-girl reputation, she checked in for treatment and was photographed hiking and biking and apparently working hard at becoming sober.

In August, as she entered rehab, she issued a statement that said in part, "It is clear to me that my life had become completely unmanageable, because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs. I very much want to be healthy and gain control of my life and career and have asked for medical help in doing so."

Michael Lohan, who has regularly expressed the hope that his daughter would sever herself from the "bad influences" in her life, said Friday that he would "try my best to lead by example and institute important tools. I will be there in her life as best I can, but from here on she's going to have a lot of decisions to make on her own," he told People.

Dina Lohan told the magazine: "I'm proud of her. She's moving ahead with her life. Things were getting out of control. She took action. She took responsibility. She really needed to heal."

Lohan's dealings with the law aren't over. She's currently on probation after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor counts of being under the influence of cocaine, and no contest to two counts of driving with a blood-alcohol level of more than 0.08 percent and one count each of reckless driving for incidents in July and May. She's also facing a negligence lawsuit filed by a driver whose van Lohan hit in October 2005.
