DCNR Seeks Community Volunteers to Cleanup Buchanan State Forest

HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is looking for volunteers for a Saturday, Oct. 13, effort to cleanup illegally-dumped trash and debris along a road passing through Buchanan State Forest in Wells Township, Fulton County.

"With so many people visiting our state forests to see and do so much, we don't want litter detracting from the natural beauty," said DCNR Secretary Michael DiBerardinis. "Volunteers who turn out for cleanup events show the pride most visitors have when they enter our vast forestlands. I commend them for the dedication and thank them."

The cleanup, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will focus on Three Mountain Road, a township road off Route 915 that is flanked by state forestlands. Volunteers are asked to meet at 8:45 a.m. at the nearby Buchanan State Forest Sideling Hill Picnic Area on Route 30.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided. The event is supported jointly by DCNR and PA CleanWays. The rain date is Saturday, Oct. 20.

Cleanup volunteers must be at least 12 years old and should wear sturdy shoes, long pants, long sleeves and work gloves. For youth volunteers age 12-17, call PA CleanWays for participation requirements.
