Yahoo Upgrades Web Mail

Current Headlines: California Internet services company Yahoo Inc. rolled out a new version of its Web mail Monday that lets users send free text messages to cell phones.

The new application lets users send text messages to cell numbers in the United States, Canada, India and the Philippines, the Sunnyvale, Calif., company said.

Users also may send instant messages from Yahoo Mail to members of the Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live Messenger communities.

Other upgraded capabilities include tabbed navigation, a reading pane, an integrated calendar and a reader of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcast digital-media files, Yahoo said.

Yahoo also said new e-mail search refinements let users to improve their advance search results by narrowing results by sender, folder, date, attachment type and message status to pinpoint specific queries.

The announcement followed nearly a year of beta testing of the new application.
