Fewer Trans Fats for Dunkin' Donuts

Aug 27, 10:28 AM

Current Headlines: Dunkin' Donuts says that it is removing trans fats from all donuts sold in the company's U.S. stores starting next month.

Donuts with zero grams of trans fat are already being served in Philadelphia and New York City. The Massachusetts-based company said it has also been serving the donuts in approximately 400 restaurants throughout the country as part of a blind test.

Dunkin' Donuts announced Monday that all its menu offerings will be zero grams trans fat by October 15.

Joe Scafido, Chief Creative and Innovation Officer at Dunkin' Brands, said the company's research and development team has reformulated more than 50 menu items.

"We are proud to be the first major quick service restaurant chain to introduce a donut that has

zero grams trans fat, and are delighted that customer response to our new donuts has been unanimously positive," Scafido said Monday in a release.

The company removed trans fat from all muffins and bagels in 2003.
