Woman Dies at Playland Amusement Park

Current Headlines: A 20-year-old woman was killed at Playland Amusement Park in Rye, N.Y., in an accident involving the Mind Scrambler ride.

Westchester County police said they did not know exactly how the ride was connected to the woman's death, but quarantined the area and were investigating, The Journal News in White Plains reported Saturday.

We're still trying to get a grip on what happened back there, said police spokeswoman Kieran O'Leary. There is going to be an investigation overnight and a press conference in the morning.

Although the ride was shut down, customers and employees were not told of the death, and the park remained open for its normal hours.

There were reports the woman who died was a park employee, possibly in a management position, said food vendor Jeffrey Almodovar, who works at the park. But police could not confirm that, or an initial report that the employee was telling a girl to sit down on the ride, which spins on its axis while riders spin in individual seats.

There were no other injuries, O'Leary said.
