Springs Adding 9 People a Day

Government figures released today offer the latest measurement of just how fast the region is growing: In Colorado Springs, the population is climbing by nine people every day on average.

That adds up to 3,281 new residents during the 12 months ending July 1, 2006, according to a U.S. Census Bureau estimate.

Colorado Springs' population increased 3 percent since 2000 to an estimated 372,437. The population in Thornton, a Denver suburb, jumped nearly 33 percent during the same period, and Aurora was up almost 9 percent.
