Six Wounded in Afghanistan

Jul 01, 09:37 AM

Current Headlines: Three British soldiers were wounded Sunday in an attack against NATO-led troops in the Gereshk district of Afghanistan, it was reported.

The attack by a suicide bomber also wounded three Afghani civilians in Gereshk, where there were civilian deaths from fighting Friday, Dur Ali Shah, the district mayor, told the BBC.

NATO officials disputed Shah's contention that as many as 45 civilians were killed Friday in two air strikes that left as many as 62 Taliban fighters dead, the BBC said.

The air strikes were launched on the Gereshk village of Hyderabad Friday night after a convoy of U.S. and Afghan government troops were ambushed, the BBC said.

NATO spokesman Maj. John Thomas said NATO troops would not have fired if they knew civilians were nearby.
