Britain on High Terror Alert

Current Headlines: Britain was on its highest level of terror alert Sunday amid the arrests of five people suspected in three bomb plots.

The arrests came after Saturday's attack on Scotland's Glasgow Airport was linked to two failed car bombs discovered Friday in London's West End, BBC News reported.

Two men were arrested at the airport after a burning car crashed into terminal doors at Glasgow. Two others were picked up later in Cheshire and the fifth was arrested in Liverpool, the BBC said.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the attacks were planned by al-Qaida-linked terrorists to inflict maximum damage on civilians.

Brown urged residents of Britain to be constantly vigilant against a long-term and sustained threat.

We will not allow anyone to undermine our British way of life, Brown said.
