Current Headlines: A white supremacist Utah prison inmate was back in custody Monday after allegedly killing a guard and leading police on a high-speed chase.

Authorities said Curtis Allgier, a 27-year-old inmate whose head is covered with tattoos that include a swastika and the words skin head, shot corrections officer Stephen Anderson, 60, of Bluffdale, while in a medical examination room at University Hospital's Orthopaedic clinic where he had been taken for treatment of back pain, the Deseret Morning News reported. Allgier then allegedly led police on a chase that ended at an Arby's restaurant.

Police said Anderson, a 22-year department veteran, was alone in the exam room with Allgier, the newspaper said.

We presume an altercation. There was signs of a struggle in the room, said University of Utah Police Chief Scott Folsom.

It appeared Allgier took the officer's gun and fired at least one shot that struck Anderson in the head.

Allgier was eventually found hiding in the restaurant after a chase that left several vehicles damaged, more shots being fired and several people sustaining minor injuries, the newspaper said.

Allgier was convicted of forgery in 2000 and for an escape attempt the following year.
