Current Headlines: A NORTHUMBERLAND school has won almost pounds 1m towards a high- tech science facility.

Cramlington Community High School has been awarded Department for Education Project Faraday funding. The high school is one of only 13 nationally to be awarded the cash.

With construction work necessary for the school's switch to a secondary already under way, it is to use the money to incorporate the science facility.

Headteacher Derek Wise said: "This is an exciting time. As a secondary school we will lead on an innovative science curriculum, and this funding will allow us to develop a curriculum that both challenges and engages pupils.

"The new science learning plaza will provide a world-class environment in which young people are inspired by science and encouraged to become independent thinkers."
