Making a `Special' Mark

Current Headlines: KUTPM, the University College of Technology and Management Malaysia, calls itself the first "specialised university" of its kind in Malaysia.

In order to set itself apart from other colleges and universities, KUTPM focuses on certain major courses that are specially designed to meet the specific demands of the various industries within the region.

The three main areas are: health sciences, information science, and business and management.

The success of KUTPM thus far has been based on the successful growth of its affiliates in the PTPL Group of Colleges, which act as "feeder colleges" to KUTPM, as well as the specialised nature of its own courses, said Rosli Yusof, vice president of student career development at PTPL.

Rosli said "making a profit is not our top priority but educating these students is".

"We are currently targeting an intake of about 2,000 students throughout this year, and they are for the three major areas, health sciences, information science and business and management programs", he said.

All level of courses offered focus strongly on the health and medical sciences, business management and professional studies and information sciences and engineering disciplines.

The university college prides itself on its range of industry- relevant courses as well as the international exposure incorporated into its curriculum.

Even more, the employability rate of its graduates since the last two convocation stands at 90.8 per cent.

Students at KUTPM will gain international exposures through various means. International visiting professors conduct regular visits by semester to KUTPM. These professors hail from universities across the globe.

KUTPM is well equipped with modern facilities, coupled with a highly qualified teaching faculty. The university provides a supportive and conducive learning enviourment for its students to excel in their studies and extra curricular activities.
