Most Yankees Mum on Giambi Developments

Current Headlines: DENVER _ Word of Jason Giambi's agreement to cooperate with baseball's Mitchell investigation hadn't yet fully spread through the clubhouse after Thursday's loss to the Rockies, but most of the Yankees who were made aware of the situation chose to stay silent on the issue.

Joe Torre, Derek Jeter and Mike Myers all declined comment. Myers, who is one of the highest-ranking members of the players' union, said he would speak on the matter Friday after reviewing the facts.

Giambi agreed to speak with former Sen. George Mitchell in the near future to discuss his use of performance-enhancing drugs, but the slugger said he won't talk about any other player during his interview.

The only player to react to the news was Johnny Damon, Giambi's closest friend on the team. Damon didn't seem surprised by the news, saying he was "pretty sure" it would happen they way it did. He hopes that Giambi's cooperation would put the issue to bed and allow his friend to avoid being questioned further about the topic.

"I've always thought that what is in the past is in the past," Damon said. "We'll see what comes out of it. Hopefully there's some good and they'll find out what they want to know. Hopefully Jason can someday real soon live a normal life."
