Laser Circumcision Launched in Sudan

Jun 20, 04:19 AM

Current Headlines: Text of report by Sudanese newspaper Al-Watan on 19 June

Traditional circumcision in villages has evolved from resorting to the local barber's razor blade and applying cow dung as a substitute for penicillin to circumcision under anaesthesia and modern surgical equipment.

Male circumcision has now entered a new era with the use of laser, so that the circumcised child does not feel any pain or even lose a drop of blood. No tears fill parents' eyes as it used to be when the child used to cry in pain in the days of traditional circumcision.

Laser circumcision uses [high-intensity] radiation to perform a bloodless incision, which does not require stitching. Only light anaesthesia is needed to cauterize the child's foreskin.

It is worth mentioning that laser circumcision is new in Sudan. A circumcision specialist imported the laser machine from abroad and carried out many painless, successful circumcisions.
