Current Headlines: SAN JOSE, Calif. _ Apple claims its iPhone will last much longer than expected, providing up to eight hours of talk time, about twice as much as comparable "smart" mobile phones.

The Cupertino, Calif., electronics company updated the time in an announcement that gave fresh new details of the hotly anticipated communication and entertainment device, to be released June 29.

"iPhone's battery life is longer than any other `smart-phone' and even longer than most MP3 players," Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs said in a statement. "There has never been a phone like iPhone, and we can't wait to get this truly magical product into the hands of customers."

Apple also said the entire top surface of the iPhone will be made from optical-quality glass, instead of the original plastic, to prevent scratches. The iPhone's battery will also allow users up to six hours of Internet use, seven hours of video or 24 hours of audio, as well as 250 hours of standby time.
