Science Trust Formed

Jun 14, 03:54 PM

Current Headlines: Hamilton's science community has formed a trust aimed at recognising the importance of science in the city. Mayor Bob Simcock, who came up with the idea 18 months ago, is chairing the trust. Ruakura Research Centre is the largest agricultural and horticultural research institution of its type in the southern hemisphere. The trust aims to recognise the contributions of local scientists, encourage high school students to enter the sciences and raise the profile of local science achievements in the region. Trustees include Professor Richard Price, dean of Waikato University's School of Science and Engineering, Professor Ross Lawrenson, head of the Auckland University-run Waikato Clinical School, Dr Eric Hillerton, general manager of research at Dexcel, Dr Kerst Stelwagen, dairy science and technology manager at AgResearch, and Mary Ann Baxter, principal at Hamilton Girls' High School.
