Jun. 11--LaKisha Jones gained fame as one of four "American Idol" finalists.

Today, the Flint native got her own day as Gov. Jennifer Granholm declared it LaKisha Jones Day in Michigan.

"We in Michigan are so proud. Your gave our spirits a boost at a time when we're really challenged," Granholm said. "I have to admit, I voted quite a few times for you."

Jones said she was just a girl singing in a choir who wasn't sure that anyone loved her. "And now I have fans," she said. "I just wanted to sing. That's all I ever wanted to do."

Jones stood on the steps of the Capitol and soaked in the adulation of more than 500 fans before belting out a few lines of "And I'm Telling You," the song from the movie "Dreamgirls" that catapulted her to the final four of "Idol."

"I'm just so honored to be here today. Never did I think that I'd be standing on the steps of the state Capitol," she said.
