Teen Dies in Lotion Overdose

A TEEN cross-country runner died after using too much lotion aimed at soothing aching muscles, it has been revealed.

Arielle Newman, 17, often rubbed on the cream after tough competitions.

She is believed to be the first person to die from using over- the-counter sports creams sold in the US.

A New York coroner ruled Arielle died due to excess use of the lotion which had methyl salicy-late, an anti-inflammatory chemical found in many sports remedies.

A doctor said her body had an abnormal amount of methyl salicylate.

He added: "She either lathered herself with it or used way too much, or she used a normal amount and an abnormal percentage was absorbed."
