Russia Missile Warning

Current Headlines: Russian President Vladimir Putin warned today that US plans to build a missile defence system in Europe would force Moscow to target weapons against Europe.

The threat came days before he is to join other leaders at a Group of Eight summit in Germany.

In an interview Putin was asked whether the US move would compel Moscow to direct its own missiles at US military sites in Europe.

"Yes," he said. "It is up to our military to define these targets, in addition to defining the choice between ballistic and cruise missiles".

The US has made a request to place a radar base near Prague and 10 interceptor missiles in Poland to protect against a threat from Iran.
