Tests Reveal Drugs in Singer's System

May 30, 03:31 PM

Current Headlines: Singer George Michael, admitting he was driving under the influence, had a drug cocktail of GHB and cannabis, a British court heard Wednesday.

The singer, 43, was found slumped over the wheel of his car in north London Oct. 1. Michael Grieve, representing Michael, said prescription drugs caused the defendant's condition, the Sun reported Wednesday.

Prosecutor Andrew Torrington told the court tests showed a therapeutic quantity of an antidepressant in the singer's system as well as the illegal drug GHB. Cannabis was also found in his blood, but prosecutors do not maintain its presence caused Michael's intoxication.

Grieve agreed the level of the singer's unfitness could be viewed as high, adding that Michael's condition being described as semi-conscious at the wheel couldn't be disputed.

But when considering sentencing, he told the judge, One looks at the unfitness, not the cause of it. Whatever the level is, that's all you need to look at.

Michael is scheduled to be sentenced June 8.
