Broadway Musicians OK New Pact

May 30, 10:04 AM

Current Headlines: Musicians and Broadway producers in New York agreed to a new, three-year contract, with union members overwhelmingly approving the pact.

The settlement includes improvements to the musicians' healthcare plan sought by the membership of Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians, Playbill reported Tuesday.

The new contract was approved by 82 percent of the voters.

This settlement delivers what our members asked for by dramatically improving our health plan and will secure benefits for more members than ever, said Local 802 President Mary Landolfi said in a statement. It is a positive agreement for both sides.

Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc., said the producers' groups -- which included Disney Theatrical Productions and Musical Rights, Inc. -- said the pact reflected the parties' positive working relationship.

The settlement is a rational solution and will provide improved health benefits for our employees, while containing costs in an increasingly competitive industry, St. Martin said.
