BRITNEY Spears yesterday revealed she was "lost" and had "hit rock bottom" when she had her breakdown.

Explaining why she checked into rehab, the singer blamed her split from husband Kevin Federline and excessive partying for her erratic behaviour and strained mental state.

In a message on her website, she said: "Recently, I was sent to a very humbling place called rehab. I truly hit rock bottom.

"Till this day, I don't think that it was alcohol or depression. I was like a bad kid running around with attention deficit disorder.

"I was so overwhelmed - I think that I was in a little shock, too.

"I didn't know who to go to. I confess, I was so lost."

The 25-year-old mum-of-two also said she has had to "to cut so many people out of my life" because she was "too open" in the past.

But she added that sons Sean Preston and Jayden had helped her face up to her problems.

Britney was photographed out clubbing without any underwear and publicly shaving her head before she checked in to a Malibu rehab centre earlier this year.
