Lindsay Lohan Returns to Rehab

Current Headlines: By Karen Thomas

For the second time in just over four months -- and just days after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence -- Lindsay Lohan has checked into rehab.

"Lindsay admitted herself to an intensive medical-rehabilitation facility on Memorial Day," spokeswoman Leslie Sloane said in a statement Tuesday that referred to Lohan's "medical matter" and the "seriousness of the situation." No other details were included.

Lohan, who turns 21 July 2, was driven to Promises treatment center in Malibu on Monday by lawyer Blair Berk, TMZ.com reports. That's where Britney Spears sought treatment in March.

Despite being photographed attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and completing a rehab stint earlier this year, Lohan has said she doesn't have a substance-abuse problem. "I don't know that I'm necessarily an addict," she told this month's Allure magazine. "It's so weird that I went into rehab. I always said I would die before I went into rehab."

On Saturday, Lohan crashed her Mercedes into a curb and was treated at a hospital for minor injuries. Later that day, Beverly Hills Police officials told reporters that Lohan was cited on misdemeanor DUI charges and that they had found a "usable amount" of a substance believed to be cocaine.

Lohan continued clubbing after the accident. On Monday, celebrity photo agency X17 posted unflattering pictures of Lohan leaving a party Sunday at Teddy's.

The effects of Lohan's situation on her career may play out this week. She was expected to start work Wednesday on the film Poor Things. Her next film, I Know Who Killed Me, is due in July. (c) Copyright 2005 USA TODAY, a division of Gannett Co. Inc.
