Plane Crash in North Carolina Kills Three

May 27, 02:49 PM

Current Headlines: An unidentified woman and two doctors from Florida were killed this weekend when a small plane crashed in the North Carolina wilderness.

The St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times said Sunday that Dr. Freddy A. Camuzzi and Dr. Charles R. Freeble III of St. Petersburg General Hospital were among the three killed when their plane crashed and burst into flames while attempting to land at a North Carolina airstrip.

Federal Aviation Administration officials said the doctors' single-engine plane crashed and burst into flames after a failed landing at a remote airstrip Saturday.

The men were traveling to North Carolina with their unidentified female passenger for the Memorial Day weekend, friends said.

Both doctors were experienced pilots and it is unknown who was at the plane's controls.

A spokeswoman for the Florida hospital expressed the staff's grief for the tragic accident, the Times reported.

They were part of our family, spokeswoman Tammy Robiconti said. We loved them both. They were just wonderful doctors.
