Jankovic Takes French Open First-Round Win

Current Headlines: Fourth-seeded Jelena Jankovic dropped just four games in collecting a first-round victory Tuesday at the French Open.

Jankovic improved to 40-10 on the year with a 6-2, 6-2 romp over Stephanie Foretz. Jankovic is looking for her fourth tournament championship of the year. She's never won a Grand Slam event.

Nadia Petrova, the No. 11 seed, was ousted by qualifier Kveta Peschke 7-5, 5-7, 6-0. Petrova reached the French Open semifinals in 2003 and 2005 but has lost in the first rounds the past two years.

Advancing Tuesday were sixth-seeded Nicole Vaidisova, who had little trouble in her 6-4, 6-3 win over Emmanuelle Gagliardi; No. 13 Elena Dementieva, who defeated Angelique Kerber 6-3, 6-2; and 18th-seeded Marion Bartoli, who topped Aravane Rezai 6-2, 6-4.

No. 23 Italian Francesca Schiavone and No. 28 Italian Mara Santangelo also notched first-round wins Tuesday.
