US Arms Arrive Following Urgent Request By Lebanese Army

US informed sources have told Al-Arabiya Television that emergency military supplies for the Lebanese Army have started to arrive in Beirut. A US military plane loaded with ammunition coming from Kuwait landed in Beirut. Two other planes are scheduled to arrive next Saturday [26 May] coming from Egypt.

The sources noted that the supplies will stop flowing in by next Sunday or Monday after other planes loaded with US ammunition come from certain Arab countries.

The decision was made to send the US supplies via US military planes instead of the traditional way of hiring private planes. This is due to the urgent request by the Lebanese side and because the Lebanese Army does not have some types of equipment.

The sources disclosed that the Lebanese Army requested to be provided with artillery shells and other types of ammunition, in addition to other equipment like night vision binoculars, after it turned out that some members of the Fatah al-Islam organization are equipped with such binoculars.
