Kim Leads, Play Suspended at Colonial

May 24, 09:19 PM

Current Headlines: Anthony Kim shot 7-under 63 Thursday and led by one shot when thunderstorms suspended first-round play at the Crowne Plaza Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas.

Kim, a rookie who played in the first group off the tee, birdied the last six holes to equal the lowest score of his PGA Tour career.

Scoring conditions at the Colonial Country Club were perfect early in the day, allowing Ted Purdy and Jeff Maggert to share second place at 64. Nathan Green, Jeff Quinney and Peter Lonard all shot 65.

Lightning halted play for an hour beginning at 11:45 a.m. CDT and then, about 90 minutes after action resumed, a violent thunderstorm moved through. That finished play for the day.

The first round will be completed early Friday and as much of the second round will be played as possible.

More rain was in the forecast.

Among those still on the course when the siren blew was Frank Lickliter, who stood at 5-under through eight holes. Kevin Na was at 4-under through eight.

Kim's birdie streak was the best on the PGA Tour this year.
