Dell to Begin Selling Desktops at Wal-Mart

Current Headlines: Texas-based Dell Inc. plans to begin selling two models of its desktop computers at Wal-Mart, beginning June 10, it was announced Thursday.

A Wal-Mart statement said the PCs will sell for less than $700 each in stores in the United States and Puerto Rico.

The strategy marks a major change in how Dell sells computers, PC World magazine reported. Until now, the company has taken phone or Web site orders and assembled a customized machine.

Wal-Mart already sells desktop PCs from other companies, including Hewlett-Packard, Acer and Gateway and notebooks from Toshiba, Sony and others.
