Iran Wants EU Away From Sailor Dispute

Mar 30, 09:31 AM

Current Headlines: Iranian officials say they do not want third parties involved in talks between London and Tehran concerning British sailors and marines being detained in Iran.

The officials say the issue of the 15 British navy personnel, who were arrested for an alleged marine border transgression, will not be resolved any quicker with involvement from the U.N. Security Council and the European Union, Iranian Press TV reported Friday.

There is no doubt that the sailors have transgressed the Iranian borders as their GPS record shows and as the sailors themselves have admitted, said Ahmad Khatami, a member of Iran's Experts Assembly.

This is an issue between the two countries. Britain has made the aggression and Iran has confronted the action, he said.

The British government denies the sailors were in Iranian waters. The Security Council voted against a measure aimed at forcing Iran to free the British military personnel, instead issuing a statement conveying concern over the matter and calling for a swift resolution.
