Rock Singer's Wife Charged With Arson

Mar 27, 10:07 AM

Current Headlines: The wife of Velvet Underground's Scott Weiland is free on bail after being charged with setting the singer's clothes afire, Burbank, Calif., police said.

Mary Weiland was freed on $50,000 bail after being arrested and charged with suspicion of vandalism and arson in the burning of the singer's suits and shoes on the front yard of their home, E! News said.

Weiland, 31, and her husband also were questioned about significant damage to a boutique hotel, police said.

The Weilands, their two children and a personal assistant were staying at the hotel when Scott and Mary Weiland became involved in a loud argument, Police Sgt. Matthew Ferguson said of the weekend incident. By the time officers arrived, the two rooms suffered broken glasses, broken dishes, food on the carpet and damage to the walls.

The clothes burning incident occurred late Sunday. Mary Weiland was arrested for vandalism because the clothes weren't hers, and for arson because you can't burn stuff willy-nilly, Ferguson said.

Mary Weiland is scheduled to be arraigned on May 7.

The hotel hasn't decided whether it will press charges.
